Alpha Kappa Psi selects its new pledge class at the beginning of each
semester during a competitive recruitment, more commonly referred to as rush.
So, what IS rush?
Rush is a week-long process focused on getting to know you while learning more about your skillset and unique qualities. Each day helps us become further acquainted with you in order to see if we can be a good fit for one another. We look at membership as a mutually beneficial relationship. Each member furthers our involvement within UofSC and the Columbia community and in turn, AKPsi encourages and equips its members for success!
What should I expect?
Application: HireVue
Due Monday, 8/31 at 11:00 PM EST
Filling out our rush application is the first step to begin rush week! Filling out the rush application will allow us to get a general understanding of who you are. This will look much like an internship application where you will be able to share your general information as well as record your answers to 2-4 questions simple interview questions. We recommend that you treat the video recordings like you were completing them for a recruiter as this will be our first introduction to who you are. Keeping answers concise while showcasing your passion and personality! We will contact all candidates that have impressive applications to move on to the live nights of rush.
Night One: Tell Us About Yourself (Invitation Only)
Wednesday, 9/2
Coming into night one, you will be given time to explain to the brotherhood what makes you, you. This night is an opportunity to explain to the chapter who you are, what interests you, what do you value, and what makes you unique! Our brotherhood is filled with people with a wide variety of talents, interests, and backgrounds. In the Zoom environment, we want you to share with us what excites you and how you can leverage your unique experiences to push our chapter forward.
Night Two: Team Challenge (Invitation Only)
Thursday, 9/3
Receiving an invitation to our third night of rush means that you will be partnered with a fantastic group of students whom you will work with on a team challenge. This activity is great for showcasing your creativity, critical thinking, problem-solving and public speaking skills. But remember, even if these things make you want to kick off your heels or loafers and run home, you’re all in this together! Teamwork is so important in the workplace and in life, so take this chance to collaborate with like-minded people and see what you can accomplish as a group.
Night Three: Individual Showcase (Invitation Only)
Friday, 9/4
Congratulations! You’ve made it to our final round of rush. You can expect an appointment time and your snazziest business professional attire. We can’t let the cat out of the bag, but getting to this round means that we think you could be a great fit for AKPsi. Be confident and punctual. No need to stress out about the perfect suit – it’s you we want to learn about, not at what store you bought your blazer. If you want to be extra prepared, research the fraternity and practice your interview skills in advance with online resources or the career center.
