What do a cappella, business and South Africa have in common? Taylor Brock of course! Taylor is one of Alpha Kappa Psi’s most compassionate and kind-hearted brothers. She came to the University of South Carolina from Inman, S.C. to pursue a degree in public relations and rushed AKPsi in the spring of 2015. She is also a part of Dance Marathon and Alpha Delta Pi and spent a summer abroad in South Africa! Even with a busy schedule, Taylor knew something was missing, and that was music. She has been singing ever since she can remember, and can even play seven instruments. Taylor knew she wanted to join a group of people to make music with, and was ecstatic when she found The Cocktails, an all-female a cappella group on campus.
When asked what her favorite part of being in The Cocktails is, she immediately answered the people she works with. Even though everyone in the group has a different background and major, they all share a passion for music and singing. It’s this diverse batch that creates such a unique environment and sound when they sing. Taylor secretly loves singing in an a cappella group because it reminds her of Pitch Perfect, one of her favorite movies. The Cocktails just had their fall concert on November 12 at Tin Roof - be sure to check out their Facebook page to stay up-to-date with upcoming shows, which included a trip to the White House this week! This summer, Taylor interned with the South Carolina Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy as a capacity building intern. After graduation, Taylor hopes spend a few years volunteering with Teach for America or Young Adults in Global Mission and then attend law school to work in educational policy reform. By Elle Durbin
