Rushing a Professional Business Fraternity 201 (As told by Drake)

Back now? Here’s five tips on rushing a professional business fraternity, straight from VIEWS. 

1. “The only thing I did to get here was put the work in.”
Rush is effort. Rush is work. Just like any class, you are going to have to put in work. Do your research; check out who we are nationally and at USC, what our core values are, what we have been up to, etc. You put in what you want to get out, and it is easily recognizable when a rushee puts in the time and effort to learn more about us.

2. “I keep it 100 like I’m running a fever.”
So give 100%...no, 110% each night. However, talking (a lot) with 10, 20, 30+ people a night can take a toll. Find a way to balance and take care of yourself during the week. Whether that is through better time management or some major de-stress meditation after each night, make sure that you can come back the next night, ready to go. But! If you do fall ill, don’t forget to communicate with us if you’re going to miss a night.

3. “Your body language says it all, despite the things you said to me.”
Whether it is at the Meet & Greet or during interviews, pay attention to your body language. It is true when they say that only a small percentage of communication is through our words. The rest comes with tone and delivery. It is easy to tell when someone is disengaged in the conversation, so be more aware of yourself and how you say things. The two biggest tell-alls are eyes and feet. You can read up more on bad body cues here. 

4. "Always saw you for what you could’ve been.”
Don’t feel that you must already be a leader on campus and have tons of accolades and achievements to rush AKPsi. Again, there is no ideal rushee. We are looking for potential in you. We are looking to see if you would make a great brother.

5. "Strength and guidance, all that I’m wishing for my friends.”
In the end, we depend on a strong brotherhood. Having leadership skills and impressive resumes is one thing, but your character is everything. We are not just a professional business fraternity, we are a brotherhood; made up of brothers who can lift us up when we are down, challenge us to be our best, and guide each other to success. So with that, I leave you with three questions you need to ask yourself before embarking on rush week:

What can you bring to Alpha Kappa Psi?

Why do you want to be a brother?

Why should we want to have you as a brother?
